People have been drinking green tea for health promotion for well over 4,000 years. Medical research has confirmed what the Chinese have been saying for centuries: that green tea contains special health preserving and revitalizing power. It can speed up metabolism, keep your hunger pangs at bay, and keep you feeling refreshed all day long.

If we already know about this super drink, then why are the sales of soft drinks and Starbucks continuing to rise? My guess is that green tea is not one of the buttons people can choose from on a vending machine. We want convenience, but then we complain that we are getting fat and sick. Here’s the answer, plain and simple. Stop the insanity and start drinking the tea!

Green tea contains more powerful antioxidants than any other product on the market. Even Raisinets! (I say that because it is amazing how the makers of candy try to insult our intelligence by boasting health properties on their packages!) At any rate, antioxidants prevent free radicals from harming our bodies. This is important for our overall health and well-being.

Caffeine is a stimulant that is present in green tea in much smaller amounts than in black tea or coffee. In small amounts, it can be an excellent energy enhancer, but it is best to limit one’s intake, as excess caffeine consumption is unhealthy. Have you ever drank so much coffee that you get the jitters? That is not a good sign. You will not get that feeling from green tea, no matter how often you drink it. Too much is never a problem.

Not to get too hung up on ingredients, let us take a look at the health benefits of drinking green tea. It is a good thing to be aware of what a beverage is made of, but you do not want to spend all of your time analyzing instead of drinking. No one ever asks for the ingredients of a Big Mac, but people gobble them up knowing it is unhealthy. You already know green tea is healthy, so focus on that instead of what is it made of.

HEALTH BENEFITS #1: WEIGHT LOSSGreen tea extract increases metabolism, reduces cravings and aids in weight loss. Green tea may safely increase daytime metabolism as much as 30-40% and increase energy production, as well as a significant fat burning effect. If you have been struggling to lose weight, this should be enough to make you want to start drinking green tea today!

HEALTH BENEFITS #2: ANTI-STRESSL-Theanine is a natural relaxant and is an amino acid found in green tea. It produces tranquilizing effects in the brain, which diminishes stress, worry, and anxiety. It also allows the brain to focus and concentrate better. You will not get a drowsy or groggy feeling either. It simply calms you by helping to increase electrical brain activity commonly present when you are relaxed.

HEALTH BENEFITS #3: BALANCES CHOLESTEROLGreen tea lowers the bad LDL cholesterol while increasing the good HDL cholesterol. It also reduces blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes and acts as a blood thinner. In a recent study, green tea extract prevented cancer of the breast, lung, liver, prostate, skin, esophagus and colon in animals. Drinking two or more cups of green tea a day may reduced the risk of breast cancer by 50 percent and the overall risk of all cancers by ten percent.

HEALTH BENEFITS #4: LONGEVITY & ANTI-AGINGThose who drink green tea often demonstrate a lower mortality rate than those who do not drink it. Why? One reason could be that green tea stimulates the immune system.

HEALTH BENEFITS #5: BONE HEALTHThe regular consumption of green tea can both reduced risk of osteoporosis while reversing pre-existent bone degeneration.

HEALTH BENEFITS #6: ORAL and INTESTINAL HEALTHDrinking green tea protects teeth and gums from disease and kills oral bacteria that cause cavities and bad breath. The polyphenols in green tea even promote the growth of friendly bifidobacteria in the intestine, improves digestion and prevents gastritis and stomach cancer.

I am sure there are probably even more health benefits associated with drinking green tea, but you get the idea that it is more than good for you. Before I became a green tea drinker, I had chronic asthma and allergies, low energy and I was 70 pounds overweight. Green tea did not cure everything, but it is one of the main reasons I am now medication free and no longer overweight.

If you are suffering from any of the problems I had, or any listed above, start drinking green tea. You will be amazed at how much better you feel, both mentally and physically.

Show me a single human being that isn’t interested in health related nutrition, preventing diseases and slowing the aging process – if you are that single person, this article is of no interest to you, sorry.

You are still reading..well, aren’t we all..?

Fruits, vegetables, red meat, fish, red wine etc. – what should we eat, when and how much ? What vitamins, minerals, and trace elements should we add to our diet? And the questions just keep on piling-up…

Where are the answers? Is there a new discovery not known to all of us? THERE IS – Antioxidants.

You’re right it is not a fruit, nor is it a vegetable however, scientific studies revealed that this is, by far, the most important substance we should all be looking for in our food, and the higher the antioxidant level, the better.

What is an Antioxidant?

Antioxidants are substances that protect cells from the damages caused by unstable molecules known as Free Radicals. Free radical damages lead to cancer as well as rapid aging. Antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals, thus preventing the damages. The National Cancer Institute wrote “…considerable laboratory evidence from chemical, cell culture, and animal studies indicates that antioxidants slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer…”

How and Why?

Free radicals are molecules with incomplete electron shells which make them more chemically reactive than those with complete electron shells. Exposure to various environmental factors (we are all exposed to all of them!) leads to free radical formation. In humans, the most common form of free radicals is Oxygen. When an Oxygen molecule (O2) becomes electrically charged or “radicalized”, it tries to steal electrons from other molecules, causing damage to the DNA and other molecules. Over time, such damage, if not taken care of, become irreversible and leads to cancer and speedy aging. Antioxidants are often described as “mopping up” free radicals, meaning, they neutralize the electrical charge and prevent the free radicals from taking electrons from other molecules.

O.k., now that we know what’s the most important substance for our Health, Wellness and Longevity, let us examine what’s out there for us to consume..

The scientists at the National Institute on Aging, NIH, Maryland, came up with a method to let us know who has the best available Antioxidants (by “who”, I mean which food..). This method is called ORAC – Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity.

There is ONE STAR that is way-up in the ORAC test. It was not known to the western world until recently. This STAR is 10 times stronger than anything we knew !!! You surely wonder what this ORAC STAR is, well, a little bit of patience…

We are told to consume 5-7 fruit & vegetable servings every single day (ha ha..), drink a glass of red wine every single day (a good idea but, how on earth ??) and so on and on and on..come on, get realistic – we are all so busy that we hardly find the time to eat properly!

Would someone PLEASE get us a SINGLE (or max 2) FOOD Product that when consumed, will provide our body with all (or most) of what’s needed ? PLEASE!?

Guess what ? – ACAI !!!

This strange word is A SINGLE Fruit’s name. Here’s what this magic fruit includes:

A M A Z I N G!!!

Here’s a SINGLE FOOD ITEM, ACAI, that is, literally, a “LIFE IN A BOTTLE” !

Where can we get it?

Well, we could climb 90ft high palm trees in the Amazon rainforest (that’s the only place on earth the ACAI grows) or, we could buy variations which are available on the market place. There are a few ACAI products (or, so-called..Acai products) out there which one can choose from. I investigated almost all of them (and they are not cheap but, can you put a price tag on your health..?).

To my humble opinion (well, not only mine, read the P.S.) there is only 1 Acai product that enables us to get the majority of the outstanding content. The reason being is the manufacturing process. This manufacturer uses a combination of Acai pulp and freeze-dried powder in its scientifically formulated blends. This fruit drying method (which, by the way, is patented), retains all the natural goodness of the fresh ACAI – A TRUE BLESSING TO ALL OF US!

This article has been written for your general knowledge, and has no intention of selling you anything..If you are genuinely interested in exploring the essence of this magical fruit, you will have to email me (you may find my email in the resource box – no spam!).

David Smith

P.S.

Here’s what Dr. Alex Schass, the World’s leading

independent researcher, said about the benefits of

this drink on OPRAH’s :

ACAI

Nature’s Energy Fruit

It may seem odd to start this list of superfoods with one you’ve likely never even heard of. But studies have shown that this little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world! Acai (ah-sigh-ee) is the high-energy berry of a special Amazon palm tree.

Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil, Acai tastes like a vibrant blend of berries and chocolate. Hidden within its royal purple pigment is the magic that makes it nature’s perfect energy fruit. Acai is packed full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Although Acai may not be available in your local supermarket, you can find it in several health food and gourmet stores (often in juice form). A new product featuring the unsweetened pulp is now also available, and I highly recommend that you choose this form of Acai.

Acai pulp contains:

* A remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine.

* A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help promote cardiovascular and digestive health.

* An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.

The fatty acid content in Acai resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleic acid is important for a number of reasons. It helps omega-3 fish oils penetrate the cell membrane; together they help make cell membranes more supple. By keeping the cell membrane supple, all hormones, neurotransmitter and insulin receptors function more efficiently. This is particularly important because high insulin levels create an inflammatory state, and we know, inflammation causes aging.

We’d all love to find a food or “super pill” that will cure anything that ails us, from the common head cold to the extra ten pounds we find ourselves trying to sweat off every Christmas. Many nutrition companies swear that these products are already available on the market. The question is, are they really? Do these products truly offer hope, or are they just more of the same when it comes to nutrition nonsense? Weight Loss Imagine the improved health and happiness that men and women all over the world would be able to enjoy if there were really such a thing as a weight loss super pill that could help you lose weight while still continuing to enjoy your favorite his calorie latte every morning. Unfortunately, regardless of the claims of marketing companies all over the world, such a thing doesn’t exist. What’s more, there may be danger in them there hills when people go looking for a fast solution to their weight loss dilemma. Some products sold over the counter, such as herbal preparations that contain the herb ephedra, have been linked to real health problems. Other products, such as those that are supposed to increase serotonin (a neurochemical involved in appetite regulation), just have not been proven. The danger there may lie in wasted efforts (to say nothing of wasted money), pinning your hopes on an approach that takes you nowhere. Bottom Line: When it comes to healthy weights, there’s no substitute for healthy living. It’s a pleasant, safe way to be the best you can be. Herbal Supplements Ask women why they take herbal supplements such as ginseng, echinacea, gingko and St. John’s wort, and some of the most common responses are to: Improve energy Promote weight loss Relieve stress Improve memory Improve mental performance Do these herbs really have such wonderful effects? Well…maybe. But it’s wise to be cautious. In most cases, there is just not enough research to hang our hats on. Even if there were, product consistency is sorely lacking. There’s no guarantee when it comes to the amount of active ingredient you actually get when you buy various supplements – you could get too little in some and too much in others. Finally, these herbal preparations may have a severely negative effect on the medications that you’re already taking, leaving you feeling like the cure was worse than the disease. Bottom Line: Take the claims that these supplements make with a grain of salt, and make sure your health care provider knows about herbs you take. She or he can give you guidance based on your individual situation. Super Foods The first food that comes to mind when you start talking about super foods is soy. Is it the answer to the challenges women face as they get older, such as menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease, as so many people claim? There’s no question it’s a great food , but is it really a super food? Soy provides protein for vegetarians and anyone else who wants to reduce the amount of animal food they eat. What’s more, research does show that eating a diet rich in soy can help cut risk of heart disease. Whether it cuts cancer risk or prevents hot flashes – that’s not so clear. Then there’s the challenge – do you like the stuff? Bottom Line: Steer clear of pinning your hopes on these so-called “Super foods”. The best advice remains the same: Eat a variety of foods that include grains/starchy vegetables, protein foods, vegetables and fruits. That way, if you don’t like one particular food, you will likely be able to get similar benefits from others foods you enjoy. But give soy (a protein food) a try. There are plenty of choices, and you may find that you enjoy them far more than you originally believed. Try tofu instead of chicken in stir fries, sample soymilk if you can’t drink regular milk (get the calcium-fortified kind), and enjoy a veggie burger made with soy instead of a hamburger occasionally. The jury’s still out in soy powders – whether they really provide the benefits you want from soy. Best to stick with the real stuff. Antioxidants & Other Vitamin/Mineral Supplements After several years of recommendations from very credible sources to take antioxidants daily, recent studies indicate supplements of vitamins C, E and beta-carotene offer no increased protection against heart disease. Once again, it seems that the higher levels of antioxidants from the foods we eat, e.g. fruits and vegetables, rather than single nutrients are the best way to go. Why? Perhaps because foods also contain additional components such as fiber and other nutrient and non-nutrient components that are not found in single supplements. Here’s a quick list of phytonutrients (plant nutrients, including antioxidants) that may offer real health benefits and the plants they come in: Beta carotene — Enjoy apricots, mangoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, broccoli, spinach and other dark-green, leafy vegies. Lutein — Try kiwi, broccoli, spinach. Lycopene — Pink grapefruit and tomatoes are among the best sources. Anthocyanins — Blueberries, cherries, plums and strawberries fill the bill here. Phenolic compounds – Savor berries, grapes, tomatoes and apples. In addition, there’s plenty of time-tested research that shows many women don’t get enough calcium or vitamin D, particularly those over the age of 40 and those who live in northern climates and/or do not drink milk. Adequate folate is critical for women of childbearing years, to reduce risk of birth defects. It’s also important to control homocysteine levels in the blood — too much is linked to heart disease. Fortified cereals and other grain foods, leafy greens and legumes are excellent sources of folate. Younger women likely need supplemental iron, but it is not recommended for postmenopausal women. Fortified cereals are an easy way to add iron to the diet. Bottom Line: Nutrient deficiencies in the diet are not at all uncommon, but there’s no need to overcompensate. At this time, many researchers believe that multivitamin/mineral supplements, or individual supplements that provide no more than 100% of the daily needs for a individual nutrient, or fortified foods are preferred methods by which to supplement the diet. The Bottom, Bottom Line It comes down to this. While there may some truth to many of the nutrition or health claims we hear, in most cases it is too soon – sometimes too dangerous – to act until we know more. Even though scientific research is a very slow, methodical process involving repeated studies and can take years to sort out the facts, experience shows it’s usually better to be safe than sorry. Think carefully before you make any changes in your diet or health routine, particularly if the change is based on the findings of a single study, and always run these changes by your health care practitioner.
